Popular singer Debby Boone is best known for her '70s hit You Light Up My Life, which stayed 10 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and won her a Grammy Award for Best New Artist and an American Music Award for Favorite Pop Single. She also received Grammy nominations for Best Pop Female and Record of the Year. You Light Up My Life also reached #1 Adult Contemporary and #4 Country. The single and the album of the same name were both certified platinum.
Born in New Jersey, Debby's life was full of music growing up. Her father is Pat Boone, the popular singer of the '50s. At the age of fourteen, Debby began touring with her three sisters and her father. Although the Boone sisters primarily recorded gospel music, they twice reached Billboard's AC charts with When the Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes and Hasta Manana which featured Debby as lead vocalist.
Following her success of You Light Up My Life, Debby released a movie theme, When You're Loved, from the Magic of Lassie. The song was nominated for an Academy Award for its composers, the Sherman Brothers.
In the '80's Debby's career took her in different musical directions. Debby began to focus on Country music. Her 1980's Love Has No Reason resulted in #1 Country, and the AC hit, Are You On The Road To Lovin' Me Again ascended to #1. Debby was now part of a historic Top 5 on the Billboard Country chart.
In addition to her recording career, Debby has starred as the lead in numerous stage productions, such as Seven Brides for Seven Brothers on Broadway and as Maria in Lincoln Center's 30th Anniversary production of The Sound of Music, which garnered Debby a Drama Desk nomination. She also starred as Rizzo in the Broadway production of Grease, and toured nationally in Meet Me In St. Louis.
Debby Boone's Reflections of Rosemary, is an intimate musical portrait of her late mother-in-law, the legendary singer Rosemary Clooney. The CD is a collection of 14 tunes distinguished by Debby's strong, striking vocal talents and a very personal, emotionally rich story line. "I wanted to select songs that would give an insight into Rosemary from a family perspective, and from the more than 30-years that I spent with her," says Debbie. This latest project is clearly more than just a performance for Debby. It is a deeply heart-felt tribute to a woman for whom she had great love and respect.
