Hughley has co-created, starred in and executive produced his own television sitcom, "The Hughleys," for four years. He recently finished filming the romantic comedy movie "Papi Chulo," which is scheduled for May 2003 release. He also has taped a comedy special this year for DVD release, "D.L. Hughley: Live at the Murat Theatre," and the USA network just broadcast "A Motown Christmas," with Hughley as master of ceremonies.

Hughley began his career as a comedian working in small clubs, and his appearance on HBO's "Def Comedy Jam" was one of his earliest breaks in the business. Then Black Entertainment Television (BET) selected him as the first host for its "ComicView" show. His popularity brought him an HBO special, and then another. In 1999, Hughley and three other comics made a Kings of Comedy tour across the country, later released as a concert film DVD by Spike Lee to rave reviews. Last year, Hughley starred in the feature film "The Brothers." The film was nominated for a 2002 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Motion Picture. He also has a 2001 Grammy Award nomination for his "The Original Kings of Comedy" comedy album.

This former circulation manager for the Los Angeles Times now enjoys frequent guest status on such shows as "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Late Night with David Letterman," "Politically Incorrect," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and "Live with Regis and Kelly."
