CHRISTINE ANDREAS - HERE’S TO THE LADY

By Esther Lynn

Best known for her work on the Broadway stage, Christine Andreas burst onto the New York theatre scene starring as Eliza Doolittle in the 20th Anniversary production of My Fair Lady. That role earned the lady the Theatre World Award.

Andreas went on to receive two Tony nominations, re-creating Laurey in Oklahoma! and as Frankie Frayne in On Your Toes, directed by the legendary George Abbott. Other Broadway credits include Words and Music with the late Sammy Cahn, Nancy in Angel Street with Dina Merrill, Rebecca in Rags, Alice in the short-lived Legs Diamond with the late, Peter Allen, and the Broadway bound and derailed Erte production of Stardust. Ms. Andreas created the role of Marguerite St. Just in the original Broadway production of The Scarlet Pimpernel. She also received high praise for her portrayal of Vera Simpson in the Prince Music Theater’s production of Rodgers and Hart’s Pal Joey in Philadelphia. For that role, she earned a Barrymore Award for Best Actress in a Musical. A sold-out three-week engagement of her one-woman show, Here's To The Ladies, followed at the same theater.

Christine collaborated with Grammy-nominated composer Martin Silvestri and writer Joel Higgins, leading to her West End debut starring in their musical, The Fields of Ambrosia. That was followed by concerts with Mr. Silvestri in London, Paris, Rome, Australia, as well as at the White House. Her CD, Love Is Good, followed. Here's to the Ladies, a tribute to the great ladies of the theatre, was their second CD collaboration. It was recorded in London with a 45-piece orchestra and released on PS Classics in the summer of 2002. Their most recent effort is The Carlyle Set, a selection of sophisticated contemporary standards recorded with a quartet of New York's most outstanding musicians.

Engagements in New York at the Café Carlyle and the Algonquin’s Oak Room prompted the New York Times to extol: "The Carlyle has selected the most obvious candidate from the next generation of Broadway sopranos...She delicately kills with the sheer beauty of her voice ...She finds a blend of lyricism and sweet sensuality that only the finest Broadway voices can conjure." Liz Smith was moved to write: "Christine Andreas is everything anyone who loves romantic pop music could want - simply sine qua non." Her Carnegie Hall debut was hailed as ‘brilliant,’ ‘delicious’ and ‘sexy’ in Variety.

These days Christine is doing the national tour of the Tony-winning Light in the Piazza. The tour is booked through at least June, but with a brief break in her schedule, Christine Andreas has scheduled a concert date in Las Vegas. Don’t miss the opportunity to see this talented lady.
