Fresh from his critically acclaimed, highly rated and aptly titled HBO special: David Brenner: Back With A Vengeance," the Philadelphia native is proving to be "the ultimate comeback kidder." The Hollywood Reporter proclaimed, "He's edgier and more insightful in his skewering of popular culture than ever before..." As a result of the special, David returned to his familiar heavy schedule of television guest appearances and national touring, intertwined within a forty-eight week engagement at the Golden Nugget Hotel/Casino where he brought star entertainment back to downtown Las Vegas.
With his comic instincts razor sharp, Brenner remains the ultimate stand-up comedian and talk show favorite, ranging from guest hosting "The Late Show with David Letterman," to trading political barbs with Chris Mathews, Paula Zahn, Bill Maher and just about every talk show on television. And of course, Brenner will always be remembered for "The Tonight Show," record 158 appearances. "The Book of Lists #2" recognized Brenner as the "Number one most frequent guest on television."
As a kid in the poor sections of South and West Philadelphia, Brenner was a gang leader who used humor as a powerful weapon. From fourth grade through high school, Brenner was elected class president, as well as "the class comedian." He then went to Temple University where, in spite of being funny, he graduated with honors, majoring in mass communications.
Before stepping on stage, Brenner enjoyed a successful career behind the camera as the writer/producer/director of 115 television documentaries and headed the distinguished documentary departments of both Westinghouse Broadcasting and Metromedia Broadcasting. Brenner's documentary work earned him a total of nearly thirty awards and citations including an Emmy Award.
Brenner added another dimension to his career by writing a best-selling autobiography entitled SOFT PRETZELS WITH MUSTARD. The success of the autobiography resulted in a multiple book deal for Brenner.
David resides in Las Vegas with his wife, fine artist, Elizabeth Slater and their two young sons, Slade and Wyatt, with a third son, Cole, attending a university back east.
