For the past 8 years my husband and I have been driving to Las vegas from Vancouver, Canada EVERY year. It is our favorite destination and even after we had kids, that didn't stop us. They have been there with us too.
This year we had a nice stop-over in Reno where we stayed at Boomtown resort/casino. We were very pleased with the service, the whole establishment and the room. Brand new rooms which we got for only $55 on a Friday and Saturday!
This year in Vegas we stayed 6 days and nights at the Monte Carlo. We arrived in Vegas around 3 pm on a sunday and checked in right away with a very fast and courteous check in. We got the 25th floor overlooking the pool and down the strip. Nice room, large enough, very clean. Got to see one of the suites when passing by one and the housekeeping lady let us peek in. Gorgeous room with a big marble jacuzzi tub set up high in front of a big floor to ceiling window!
That will be our room next year for our 10th anniversary.....or maybe at the Luxor where we have had a suite before and it was FABULOUS!
Monte Carlo pool area is nice...a great wave pool but was surprised that they did not really make enough seating areas for lounging by the pool...was quite crowded and we were surprised to see how many other kids there were (along with our 4 and 7 yr old)!!
We have stayed at the MGM Grand before and their pools and area are far superior but we do like the rooms and the size of the Monte Carlo better. Still can't have everything! I would like to take one favorite thing from each of the hotels we have stayed in and create my "dream hotel"!
Was neat to see the Mandalay Bay and got a good look at their pool area....VERY NICE...VERY SPACIOUS! Other than some very interesting, unique restaurants and good entertainment venues, Mandalay Bay is not the most awe inspiring hotel,,,still seems to have some big "empty spaces" but it does have some really "in" places to hang out.
Went through Venetian. It is beautiful (architecture) and particularly enjoyed the Madame Tussauds wax museam. They had all movie stars, sport stars etc...some are incredibly "life like" Admission there was $15 and at the very end you get to go in a theater and view a film on some of Vegas history which was interesting. Would like to have seen Paris Hotel,,,but the Grand opening was going to be 2 days after we left!
The Bellagio is something else. Couldn't get enough of the fountain show. My favorite was when there was a beautiful classical piece.
Saw Lance Burton at the Monte Carlo....HE IS FANTASTIC AND WORTH EVERY $. Was only $39 and I was sitting in the very front row where I could actually reach out and touch the guy. I still can not believe my eyes and can not figure out how he does what he does. He had a guest who was a comedian and juggler. He was really funny and entertaining. The whole show lasted 90 mins, then Lance let people line up at the magic store beside the theater and signed autographs. I will definately go see him again.
Must tell you why the Monte Carlo was a choice hotel. It is classy and location is excellent and only cost $65 sun-thurs then $112 on the friday night. Also: We discovered that my son had left his $200 Nintendo Game Boy at the hotel, 2 days after our departure. We resigned that it was gone and due to our carelessness and we learned a lesson. My son was upset. Well, I decided to call the Monte Carlo once we got home, got the lost and found dept. and sure enough they had this item, couriered it to us by Fed Ex (we had to pay) and received it at our home in Canada within 2 days! We were so grateful that someone honest turned it in and again I am impressed with the "service" at the Monte Carlo.
We can't stay away from Vegas...keep going back every year because there is always a new hotel to see, new attractions, great food and great weather.!!
