Details

Free Program To Feature Jester Hairston Singers
Everyone is invited to celebrate Kwanzaa and the accomplishments of the Rites of Passage graduates at the West Las Vegas Library Theatre on Thursday, Dec. 22, beginning at 7 p.m. The Jester Hairston Singers will perform. Admission is free. The theatre is located at 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd.
The program will include a workshop led by Keith Brantley that dispels the myths and explains the spirit and principles of Kwanzaa, as well as graduation ceremonies for participants of the “S.I.S.T.A.” girls and “UMOJA” boys Rites of Passage mentoring workshops. The Rites of Passage program is designed to provide the necessary tools to empower, develop, enlighten and assist young girls and boys in becoming caring adults and independent thinkers as they mature into adulthood. Girls and boys, ages 10 through 16, travel a 10-week journey toward the path of adulthood.
The event is sponsored by the city of Las Vegas West Las Vegas Arts Center and the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, West Las Vegas Library. For more information, call (702) 229-4800 or go online to www.artslasvegas.org.
