A Celebration Of Light, Art, Music & Performance Will Take Place In The Downtown Las Vegas Arts District
The city of Las Vegas will present the Global Light Objects (G.L.O) Festival as part of First Friday on May 7 from 6 to 10 p.m. in the downtown Arts District. This free event, a celebration of light, visual arts, music, performance and great company, will take place along with other regularly scheduled events of First Friday Las Vegas, presented monthly by Whirlygig, Inc. On South Casino Center Boulevard, between Charleston Boulevard and East California Street, the G.L.O. Festival highlights will include:
  • Artist invitational exhibitions by Anthony Bondi, Denise Duarte, Miguel Rodriguez, Todd Von Bastiaans and K. D. Matheson;
  • Music on the city stage by the Lon Bronson All Star Band;
  • Improv on the street with a special appearance by the Steam Powered Giraffes, a roving musical pantomime;
  • “10 Years of Burning Man,” a street-side film screening at dusk on the giant screen;
  • Arts + Community: a dozen local arts organizations under the big top tent, including the city of Las Vegas Office of Cultural Affairs, Las Vegas Arts Commission, Metro Arts, the Cultural Corridor, Clark County Cultural Division, Vegas Valley Book Festival and others, will offer information on local arts resources;
  • A remembrance of the Las Vegas Centennial’s 100 Mural Project of five years ago; and
  • The Spontaneous G.L.O. Parade — join a glowing conga line wearing your best light costume.
Additional festival activities on Boulder Plaza at Main Street and Boulder Avenue will include:
  • Artist invitational exhibitions by Todd Dwayne Miller, Barbara and Larry Domsky, Montana Black, Linda Whitehair, Mario Smith and Jerry Misko; and
  • The Rocky Gordon Duo performing live.
Metered street parking is free in the Arts District this festival evening. Free parking also is available at the Clark County Government Center parking lot at 500 S. Grand Central Parkway. A free trolley provides shuttle service to and from the government center parking lot and Boulder Plaza, as well as four additional First Friday stops, 6 to 10 p.m.
The G.L.O. Festival is one of a number of arts and cultural events sponsored by the city of Las Vegas to bring the arts into the heart of downtown.
