WOUNDED VETERANS HONORED WITH HOLIDAY HIGH-ROLLER WEEKEND AT THE PALAZZO LAS VEGAS

Taking place for the first time during the holiday season, The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas have joined with the Armed Forces Foundation and Omaha Steaks® to give back to our nation's wounded veterans with “Salute Our Troops”, an event that includes an all-expense paid holiday vacation where the luxury resort is celebrating  “Winter in Venice”™, a celebration of the winter holiday season on the Las Vegas Strip. From Dec. 5 to 8, the troops will be treated to an array of world-class holiday festivities, entertainment, dining and relaxation.

Nearly 40 wounded warriors were flown via a private 747 from the military hospitals Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in Fort Belvoir, Va.

Upon arriving to The Palazzo by police motorcade escort, the troops were greeted by more than 1,000 Palazzo and Venetian team members and guests lining the casino floor, cheering and waving American flags. With tears in their eyes, many held signs that read “You Are Our Heroes” or simply, “Thank You” while they applauded and shook hands with soldiers as they passed by. As the soldiers made their way through the crowds and into The Palazzo’s atrium gardens, they were in awe from the overwhelming reception and the sheer excitement of being in Las Vegas. Many of the soldiers had gone straight from combat to the hospitals and now to Las Vegas—a trip that marked their first time away from the hospital since being admitted.

To kick off the welcome ceremony, the Nellis Air Force Base Honor Guard presented the Colors while the students from the Adelson Educational Campus led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Philanthropists Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson, chairman and CEO of Las Vegas Sands, and Patricia Driscoll, president and executive director of the Armed Forces Foundation, addressed the veterans, expressing gratitude for their courage and sacrifice.

“I was overwhelmed by the welcome reception we have received. I didn’t think anyone cared about us, but not anymore,” says Sgt. Melanie Taylor from Fort Belvoir's Warrior Transition Battalion and who also recently returned from Afghanistan.

“It’s a way of showing respect for these guys who come out here. We don’t get thanked a lot or enough. It’s good to see that (The Palazzo and The Venetian) are willing to do this kind of thing for them by showing them a good time in Las Vegas,” says Corey Reedy from the 57th maintenance squadron at Nellis Air Force Base.

This weekend marks the eighth time Dr. and Mr. Adelson, with The Sands Foundation, have hosted the nation’s wounded warriors at the property since the event began in 2007.

LAS VEGAS (November 27, 2012) – To celebrate the season of giving, The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas will join with the Armed Forces Foundation and Omaha Steaks® to give back to our nation's wounded veterans with an all-expense paid holiday vacation to Winter in Venice™, the second-annual celebration of the winter holiday season on the Las Vegas Strip. From Dec. 5 to 8, the troops will be treated to an array of world-class holiday festivities, entertainment, dining and relaxation.

“Salute Our Troops not only provides an opportunity to thank our nation's heroes, but is an outlet to help them deal with the hardships of recovery and the stress it places on their families in a positive way,” said Patricia Driscoll, president and executive director of the Armed Forces Foundation. “Now more than ever it is critical to give back to our wounded warriors and their families and provide them with the support they need. We can't thank Dr. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson and The Venetian staff enough for opening up their hearts to our wounded service members and their families and creating such a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

The all-new live show “MythBusters: Behind the Myths,” starring Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, co-hosts of the Emmy-nominated Discovery series "MythBusters,” will debut at The Palazzo Las Vegas for 6 performances only, August 17 – 19 and August 31 – September 2, 2012.  Tickets are on sale at Palazzo.com.

“MythBusters: Behind the Myths,” presents a fantastical evening of on-stage experiments, audience participation, rocking video and behind-the-scenes stories.   With this show, for the first time, fans join Jamie and Adam on stage and assist in their mind-blowing and mind-twisting approach to science.  "MythBusters: Behind the Myths" brings you face-to-face with the curious world of Jamie and Adam as the duo matches wits with each other and members of the audience.  Last winter and spring, the show performed 28-city national tour playing sold out performances all over the country.

One of the Discovery Channel’s most highly regarded and watched series, “MythBusters” is now in its ninth season.   Co-hosted by Hyneman and Savage, “MythBusters” mixes scientific method with gleeful curiosity and plain old-fashioned ingenuity to create its own signature style of explosive experimentation – and the supporting or de-bunking of urban myths that we live with day to day.

Adam and Jamie have become spokespersons at large for applying science to real life – most recently as hosts of the Discovery Channel special “"iGenius: How Steve Jobs Changed the World,” and have appeared on numerous shows including “Late Show with David Letterman,” “Good Morning America,” “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” “The Colbert Report,” NPR’s “All Things Considered” and “Morning Edition,” “Countdown with Keith Olberman,” and many more.  They were invited to participate in Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s Rally to Restore Fear And/Or Sanity and have received the Young Artist Award for inspiring young people in the interest of science.  “MythBusters” has been invited to participate on a panel at Comic-Con, where their appearances have sold-out four years running.

THE SHOPPES AT THE PALAZZO

LAS VEGAS, NV (August 20, 2008) - The recently-opened Shoppes at The Palazzo, the 450,000 square-foot retail center owned by General Growth Properties, is setting the new standard on the Las Vegas Strip for luxury with nearly 30 "firsts" to the Las Vegas market, according to Daniel J. Sheridan, executive vice president of General Growth Properties, Inc., largest retail owner and operator in Las Vegas.

"Home to an 85,000 square-foot Barneys New York and more than 60 premier luxury brands, The Shoppes at The Palazzo comprises one of the city's most comprehensive retail offerings. With nearly 30 premier brands that are opening their first stand-alone boutiques in Las Vegas, The Shoppes at The Palazzo is quickly gaining a reputation in Las Vegas as a haven for the trend-setting fashion elite," Sheridan stated.

Barneys New York heads the lists of "firsts" to Las Vegas at The Shoppes at The Palazzo. "Barneys is a mecca for the fashion-forward, and its highly-visible location on the Strip signals ultra-luxury," said Sheridan. "It serves as the ultimate calling card for The Shoppes at The Palazzo."

Other "firsts" include: Van Cleef&Arpels, Diane von Furstenberg, Chloè, Christian Louboutin, Catherine Malandrino, Anya Hindmarch, Lambertson Truex, Poleci, Charriol, Piaget, EDIDI New York, Canturi Jewels, Links of London, Double Helix Bar + Double Helix Boutique, Annie Creamcheese Designer Vintage, Bauman Rare Books, Canali, Mezlan, Guerlain, Piazza Sempione, The Kiss, Billionaire Italian Couture and Andrew's Ties.

According to Sheridan, a few select brands are opening their first worldwide or US stores at The Palazzo, including Canturi Jewels, an Australian-based luxury jeweler and EDIDI New York, a designer of one-of-a-kind jewel-encrusted handbags.

Located within The Palazzo Las Vegas, the $1.9 billion, stand-alone resort developed by Las Vegas Sands Corp. adjacent to The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino, The Shoppes at The Palazzo is one of the world's most electrifying entertainment-shopping-dining venues, according to Sheridan.

"In Las Vegas, where five-star dining and celebrity-patronized nightclubs are the norm, that's a strong statement, but The Palazzo has the right ingredients - luxury shopping, dining and nightlife - all the components that make Las Vegas the Entertainment Capital of the World."

The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian and The Shoppes at The Palazzo, though separate and distinct shopping centers, are connected via pedestrian walkways to offer an exceptional combination of 160-plus, high-end stores and boutiques and over 30 restaurants. The Shoppes at The Palazzo is the newest member of GGP's collection of America's Premier Shopping Places (www.AmericasShoppingPlaces.com), the nation's largest collection of tourism-oriented shopping centers from Boston to Hawaii.
