LAS VEGAS, NEV. - The Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas welcomes "Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding," the second longest running show in Off-Broadway history, to the existing theater adjacent to the Masquerade Village entrance. The indefinite engagement will open February 1, 2002, with a grand opening on February 14.
Performances will be nightly at 7 p.m., with a special noon Sunday Brunch Show. Tickets are $65 for general seating, and $75 for special VIP seating.
The exciting, interactive show concept gives audiences a chance to attend an actual wedding in which there is a ceremony, reception, guests and lots of improvisation. The theatrical performance satires an Italian-American wedding, and the audience participates in all aspects of the fictitious event.
The most imaginative aspect of the show is its unpredictability. Because the actors are indistinguishable from guests, no one is quite sure of the outcome. This creates a certain spontaneity unparalleled by other Las Vegas shows.
The show's original New York director, Larry Pellegrini, is directing and supervising the casting process of the Las Vegas version of "Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding," which has played in more than 40 American cities. Original producer, Joseph Corcoran, has been retained to assure the Las Vegas version will have the same flavor and authenticity of the New York production.
Since its opening more than 15 years ago, the show has garnered rave reviews from The New York Times, which called the show "audaciously imaginative," and Glamour Magazine called "Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding" "Off-Broadway's most innovative play."
Audiences begin the evening with a wedding ceremony, which is followed by a reception hosted by Vinnie Black. The dinner includes hors d'ouevres, a champagne toast and a full Italian buffet. A cash bar will also be available in the theater.
From there, a rousing reception takes place with the Nunzio and Vitale families, which includes a pasta dinner, champagne toasts, wedding cake and dancing to a five piece band.
Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding, which has been an Off-Broadway hit for more than 15 years, is the creation of the improvisational comedy troupe, "Artificial Intelligence."
