LAS VEGAS - Results of this year's Las Vegas Visitors' Choice Awards are in, and the Sahara has been chosen in three categories. The hotel was picked by readers of What's On magazine's seventh annual tourist survey of Las Vegas entertainment and business.
Selected from the popular category of Favorite Comedian, Amazing Johnathan's unique vision of comedy magic puts him on the cutting edge of modern adult comedy. Shows start at 10 p.m. nightly except Thursdays.
The fastest roller coaster on the Las Vegas strip is called SPEED-The Ride. 70 miles an hour through the Sahara Hotel's giant marquee and straight up a tower 200 feet above the sidewalk won accolades from thrill seekers from around the world.
Casbar Theatre Lounge continues a long tradition of bringing the best entertainment, always without cover charge, to its stage. Afternoon shows begin at 2 p.m.; evening performances get underway at 8 p.m. and keep the music going until early morning, Casbar has been a favorite lounge for more than 50 years.
Sahara's awards were announced by the publishers of What's On after ballots were counted in February.
The Sahara Hotel & Casino, home of the NASCAR Cafe, opened on the Las Vegas Strip in 1952. Today it is the first stop on the new Las Vegas Monorail line. The resort features country variety show "Buck Wild" and will soon present comedy music by "The Scintas" in Sahara's main theater. Visitors can also hear musical concerts nightly by "THE PLATTERS, Cornell Gunter's COASTERS and Beary Hobb's DRIFTERS" followed by comedy/magic late shows starring "Amazing Johnathan" in the 550-seat Congo Room. Sahara's "SPEED - The Ride" roller coaster and the world famous Casbar Theatre Lounge have both been awarded "Best of Las Vegas" honors by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Casbar offers an entertainment lineup that includes Denise Clemente, Lena Prima, Vegas legends The Checkmates, popular recording artist Bertie Higgins, jazz saxophonist David Van Such, and a host of others.
