JOHNNY MATHIS APPEARING AT LAS VEGAS HILTON THEATER OCT. 19-20

Details
LAS VEGAS - Internationally known singer Johnny Mathis returns to the Las Vegas Hilton Theater to perform one show nightly at 9 p.m. on Oct. 19-20. Tickets are priced at $75, $65 and $55 at the Las Vegas Hilton box office and can be purchased in person or by phone at (702) 732-5755 or (800) 222-5361.

Since first arriving on the scene in the mid-50s, Mathis' extraordinarily high level of performance, both on records and in concert, has been a source of amazement to fans and critics alike. In 1958, only two years after signing him, Columbia Records released Johnny's Greatest Hits, the first album of its kind. That LP spent an unprecedented nine-and-a-half years on Billboard's Top 100 compilation album chart, a record that still stands to this day. In fact, Mathis is second to only Frank Sinatra as the reigning album-chart king for the period between 1945 and 1972.

John Royce Mathis grew up in San Francisco, studied piano as a child and by an early age was singing in church, at school functions or wherever he could find a place. An outstanding high school and collegiate athlete, he set a then record for the high jump at San Francisco State University. Mathis seriously pondered a sports career, but by 1955 he was already working nights singing in a local club.

He gave up a chance to make the 1956 U.S. Olympic team to record his first album, and what the world lost in a track and field star, it gained in one of its most beloved singers. Some of his early hits included "Wonderful, Wonderful" and "It's Not For Me To Say." In 1957, he first reached No. 1 with the enormous hit "Chances Are," followed by the smash singles "The Twelfth of Never," "Wild Is The Wind" and "Come To Me". In late 1959, Mathis recorded his classic signature tune, "Misty."

Over the years, he has amassed more than 60 gold and platinum album awards for his worldwide record sales. Since launching his recording career, Mathis has released nearly 100 albums in the U.S. alone. He is truly an international superstar, having performed throughout North America, South America, Europe, Australia, and the Far East. In 1972, he earned a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

Today, Mathis tours nationally and internationally. He's appeared at U.S. presidential state dinners and Royal Command Performances and records about one album each year.

Don't miss and evening with Johnny Mathis live in concert at the Las Vegas Hilton, Oct. 19-20 at 9:00 p.m.
