Vegas Valley Book Festival Seeks Poster Artist for 2012 Event

Details

Artists Must Apply By Feb. 10 To Be Eligible For $1500 Honorarium
The Vegas Valley Book Festival (VVBF) will commission a local artist to create a suite of three original artworks as the official posters of the Vegas Valley Book Festival 2012. Interested artists are invited to submit qualifications to create works that celebrate the main book festival, the Vegas Valley Children’s Book Festival, and the Vegas Valley Comic Book Festival.
The project is open to any artist residing in Southern Nevada, excluding members of the VVBF Steering Committee and employees (and their families) of the city of Las Vegas, Las Vegas-Clark County Library District and Nevada Humanities. Preference will be given to artists working in media that include illustration, painting, drawing, digital media or photography.
There is no entry fee for submissions. The selected artist will receive an honorarium of $1,500. The application deadline is Feb. 10, 2012.
Submissions will be reviewed by an artist selection committee working under the auspices of the VVBF Steering Committee. Once selected, the artist will have 60 days to complete the three official festival artworks that must be approved by the festival Steering Committee.
In addition to serving as the official posters of the VVBF, the artworks also will be used to create additional collateral and branding materials for the festival, including the cover of the Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper supplement that is published as the official program of the festival. The featured VVBF poster artist for 2012 will be asked to participate in several events that highlight his/her work and serve to further heighten awareness of the VVBF as a literary event that also has strong ties to the visual communications community.
Interested artists should send an e-mail requesting an application form to info@vegasvalleybookfestival.org. Submission guidelines are available at www.vegasvalleybookfestival.org.
The largest literary event in Southern Nevada, the VVBF is planned for Nov. 1-3, 2012. Most events will take place at the Historic Fifth Street School, located downtown at 401 S. Fourth St. Many pre-festival events are planned through the year at a variety of locations. The VVBF is produced by the city of Las Vegas; Las Vegas-Clark County Library District; UNLV’s Black Mountain Institute; American Institute of Graphic Arts, Las Vegas chapter; Las Vegas Review-Journal; and Nevada Humanities, a festival founder.
