West Las Vegas Arts Center Women’s Month Program To Promote Balance and Harmony At Home And In The Community

Workshops Will Offer Insight On Spirituality, Breathing, Mediation And Relationships

The West Las Vegas Arts Center is hosting a free Women’s Month program on Saturday, March 13, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to promote balance and harmony at home and in the community as part of its eighth annual Celebration of Women. The West Las Vegas Arts Center is located at 947 West Lake Mead Blvd.

The theme is “Journeying Back to Our Roots - Heal Thyself for Health and Longevity.” Workshops will offer insight on spirituality, breathing, mediation, sisterhood, heritage, ritual, ceremony, relationships and the cultural importance of marriage and family from the African perspective. An African dance and drum ceremony will also be part of the program.

The workshops will be sponsored by The West Las Vegas Arts Center with the support of the West Las Vegas Library and the Clark County Library District.

March is Women's History Month. During March, organizations throughout the nation focus on the accomplishments and contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society and offer programs to further the advancement of women.

The program will be facilitated by Colette Lundy, Titilayo Akinlana and Anika Johnson. A retired Clark County School District administrator, Johnson is considered one of the black pioneers of Nevada and the founder of KarmaOne, Inc., a multifaceted cultural and spiritual foundation. Akinlana, currently serves as a teacher and studies human spiritual connection and energy. Lundy is a spiritually-based, personal development strategist and coach. She works with individuals and teams.

Special honor will be given to Alice Key, who is 99 years young. Alice danced at the legendary Cotton Club in New York City before she came to Las Vegas in 1955. Her career also included work as a journalist for the “Las Vegas Sentinel Voice,” a talk show host for The Bob Bailey Show in the 50's, and serving as the first president for the Las Vegas Black Historical Society, Inc.
