LAS VEGAS - "The Rat Pack is Back!" took over the legendary Congo Room at the Sahara Hotel and Casino with its premiere on Saturday, March 25.
The Rat Pack is Back! is a trip back in time to 1961, when savvy dames and swingin' cats were as much a part of Las Vegas culture as slot machines and table games. Entertainers were well-known for their witty banter as well as for musical stylings that were smooth as silk.
A group of talented performers recreate this legendary Las Vegas dynamic. Bobby Caldwell plays the leading role as the charismatic ringleader, accompanied by Rick Michel, Hiram Kasten and Tony Tillman. The performers' backgrounds in comedy, dance, celebrity impersonations and music make this production an authentic replication of Las Vegas' most celebrated era. All but one performer (Michel had made selected appearances) returns from The Rat Pack is Back!'s original debut at The Desert Inn in July 1999, where the show received numerous accolades from local and national media which included being named one of Las Vegas' top ten productions in 1999.
"The early sixties is such a fascinating era in Las Vegas history," says Yale Rowe, director of marketing for the Sahara, "And from cocktail servers and showroom décor to the brilliant performances of the actors, the audience becomes part of it all."
"The Rat Pack is Back!" has found a home in the 550-seat Congo Room. Many legendary performers, including Tony Bennett and Marlene Dietrich, made their Las Vegas debuts in the original Congo Room in the 1950's.
Show times for "The Rat Pack is Back!" are 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays, with 8 p.m. shows on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. The show is dark on Mondays. Ticket prices start at $34.95 and are available at the Sahara Box Office, (702) 737-2515, among other locations.
