City Of Las Vegas Cultural Arts & Community Events Aug. 31-Sept. 6
Ballroom Dancing To Big Band Music Sept. 5 At Charleston Heights Arts Center
Celebrate the last holiday of the summer by dancing to music performed by the Carl Grove Combo on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Charleston Heights Arts Center’s air-conditioned ballroom. The combo’s play list includes favorite songs from the 1940s to ‘70s, from swing and foxtrots to Latin and jazz.
The arts center, which features one of the city’s finest dance floors, is located at 800 S. Brush St., one block west of Decatur and north of West Charleston Boulevard. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 on performance day. Call (702) 229-6383 for tickets and information.
Marsha K will provide the vocals, with Carl Grove on tenor saxophone, Dick Guider on trumpet and flugelhorn, Bob Grundy on drums, Joe Darrow on keyboards, and Chuck Kovaks on bass. A no-host bar will be available.

This new exhibit by artist Brenda Jones opens Sept. 4. Jones has created hand-constructed and sewn paper articles of clothing. She says, “All of the work has layered meaning. Imagery and process are chosen and based on personal experiences — issues that are pressing in my life or difficult to resolve.”
