Las Vegas—Start the new year with a belly laugh and a half when comedic superstar Carlos Mencia returns to the Treasure Island Theatre January 1 for performances at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Guests must be 18 years or older to attend.
Mencia began his stand-up career performing at The Laugh Factory during amateur night and quickly rose to superstar status. Buscando Estrellas (the Latino version of “Star Search”) named Mencia "International Comedy Grand Champion," which opened the
door to appearances on television shows including “In Living Color” and “An Evening at the Improv.” He hosted the HBO comedy series “Loco Slam” in 1994 and “Funny is Funny!” on Galavision in 1998. In 2000, he released a comedy album called “Take a Joke, America” that showcased his brand of confrontational humor.
In 2002, he received a CableACE Award nomination for Best Stand-Up Comedy Special for his HBO special, and was featured on “Comedy Central Presents” later that year. In early 2005, “Mind of Mencia” debuted on Comedy Central, which has since become one of the network’s strongest shows, drawing an average 1.5 million viewers. “Mind of Mencia” wrapped its fourth season in late 2008.
Mencia has released multiple CDs and DVDs featuring his stand-up performances, including the more recent “Performance Enhanced” (2008), “No Strings Attached” (2006), “Not For The Easily Offended” (2005) and “Down To The Nitty Gritty” (2004). He continues touring his standup, having embarked on two national comedy tours and now lining up for his third.
He has performed two shows for the USO Tour, most recently hosting “Operation Myspace” for American Troops in the Middle East alongside The Pussycat Dolls and Jessica Simpson. His acting credits include starring opposite Ben Stiller and Michelle Monaghan in 2007’s “The Heartbreak Kid,” and he is currently in production with the comedy film “American Wedding” starring opposite Forrest Whittaker and America Ferrara.
