TAC Camp Registration Open At Reed Whipple Cultural Center
The city of Las Vegas will offer performing arts camps for youth this summer at Reed Whipple Cultural Center and Charleston Heights Arts Center. Each of these specialized camps offers arts-only activities that conclude in public performances at the centers. Registration for The Arts Conservatory (TAC) camp is open now at Reed Whipple, located at 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North. The Las Vegas City Council recently restored partial funding to the Reed Whipple Center so programs like the TAC camp could
continue as planned this summer.
A popular eight-week themed day camp for ages 7 to16, TAC camp will be offered Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 7-July 30. This summer’s camp is themed “Time Warp — Arts through the Ages,” and is divided into two acts. Act I, a five-week segment from June 7 through July 10, offers children an opportunity to engage in a variety of arts disciplines, including visual and language arts, dance and music. In addition, Act I also includes Thrilling Thursday workshops — interactive workshops with local professional entertainers to learn about different career opportunities in the performing arts, as well as to participate in various arts activities. Act II, a three-week segment from July 12 through July 30, is comprised of theatre games and drama taught by the award-winning Rainbow Company Youth Theatre staff. Each act concludes in performances for the public, scheduled for July 10 and July 31. Registration is available for Act I, priced at $550 per child; Act II, priced at $350 per child; or both acts, priced at $800 per child. Experience in the arts is not required. Registration must be in person at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center. Orientation dates and times will be scheduled during the registration process. Space is limited, and early registration is recommended. A $50 discount is available for registering each additional child from the same immediate family for each act. Early drop-off and late pick-up of children is available at no additional cost. Financial assistance may be available to qualified applicants. Call (702) 229-6211 for more information.
The Charleston Heights Arts Center offers the Summer Youth Dance Camp 2010, a program designed for intermediate to advanced dancers ages 11 to 18. This four-week dance camp, priced at $175 per child, will be held Tuesday through Friday, July 6 to July 30, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Instruction will include Pilates; ballet technique; modern, lyrical, jazz and contemporary jazz dance; and much more. This camp will conclude with a performance for friends and family in The Jeanne Roberts Theatre of Performing Arts at the center. Students must provide their own dance shoes, dance attire and snacks. Auditions for placement will take place on Saturday, June 26, at 1 p.m. at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, located at 800 S. Brush St. Early registration will be held June 1-12, and will save $25 in fees. Registration will continue until the camp is full or through June 26, whichever comes first. Please call (702) 229-6383 to register for dance camp, or for more information.
