30th Annual Italian Festival Is A Family Affair Honoring Patron Saint
LAS VEGAS - The 30th Annual San Gennaro Feast honoring the patron saint of Naples, Italy, will take place Sept. 15-20 at the Grand Canyon Shopping Center located at 4245 Grand Canyon Drive and West Flamingo Road. On opening night, Sept. 15, there will be fireworks at 9 p.m. and moms ride free on all amusement rides. The semi-annual Italian heritage celebration features hundreds of food booths, amusements rides, arts and crafts and complimentary entertainment starting at 8 p.m. TV personality/entertainer Tony Sacca hosts and coordinates the talent, which will include the feast’s grand lady Lena Prima, legendary accordionist Dick Contino, and appearances by Zowie Bowie, Ronn Lucas, Rick Faugno, Todd Paul, Tom Stevens, Robbie Howard, a couple of “Franks” and “Deans,” a “Marilyn,” Matt Lewis as Elvis, John Garafalo and many more of Las Vegas’ finest entertainers backed by the Michael T Orchestra.
The San Gennaro Feast in Las Vegas takes place twice a year in May and September. The martyr's blood, which is normally solidified and of a dark color, occasionally becomes liquid and reddish, starts frothing, bubbling up, and increasing in volume. This usually occurs twice a year; on the first Sunday of May, the feast of the transfer of the Saint's relics; also on Sept. 19, the anniversary of his martyrdom.
Gates open at 4 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. on weekends. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for seniors at the gate. Children 54 inches and under are free. For discount tickets, visit www.sangennarofeast.com
