LAS VEGAS – November 18, 2008 – As part of the intimate Connoisseur Series, the Las Vegas Philharmonic will host an elegant soiree on Sunday, December 7 at 2 p.m. at the Stirling Club, featuring the Las Vegas Camerata. The reception will feature complimentary desserts and coffee followed by a dazzling concert performed by the renowned ensemble in the Stirling Club’s intimate Verandah Room. Tickets are $95 per person. A combined ticket price of $130 per person will offer the famous Stirling brunch, served from 11:30 a.m. plus the concert.
Comprised of key players from the Las Vegas Philharmonic, the Las Vegas Camerata will showcase violinist and concertmaster DeAnn Letourneau, principal cellist Andrew Smith and nationally renowned pianist Sandra Rivers, performing the dynamic masterpieces of Beethoven, Brahms and Schoenfield.

(LAS VEGAS - June 11th, 2008 ) - The Las Vegas Philharmonic today announced the appointment of Elizabeth Herridge as Interim Executive Director.
"We are extremely pleased to have Elizabeth Herridge increase her involvement with The Las Vegas Philharmonic," said Dr. David Mulkey, President of the Board of Trustees. "She is uniquely qualified to play a leadership role in the management and direction of this institution. With her strong experience and background in fine arts management, Ms. Herridge possesses the skill set required to both sustain and improve the activities of The Las Vegas Philharmonic".
In this role, Ms. Herridge will be an integral part of the management team and will supervise all operations.
"I am thrilled to take on a leadership role at The Las Vegas Philharmonic and to increase my participation and support of the orchestra" said Ms. Herridge. "Las Vegas is a city of enormous opportunity and cultural vitality. I look forward to furthering the interests and development of the Philharmonic as an integral part of the Las Vegas community and the larger arts community."
Prior to her appointment, Ms. Herridge was the Managing Director of the Guggenheim Hermitage Museum at The Venetian. Herridge is an art historian specializing in Modernism and Color Theory. She has served as a researcher, archivist, and educator at a number of museums, including the Las Vegas Art Museum, the Montclair Art Museum in New Jersey, and the Museum of Arts and Design (formerly the American Craft Museum) in New York. Additionally, she has been an adjunct faculty member in the Art Department, College of Fine Arts at UNLV. In addition to her museum leadership, Ms. Herridge spent over 17 years working for investment firms on Wall Street, most recently as a Managing Director at Bear, Stearns & Co., Inc.
Ms. Herridge received her undergraduate degree in French from Wellesley College, and earned a Master of Arts degree in Connoisseurship and the Art and Auction Market from Christie's Education in New York.
In addition to her work with The Las Vegas Philharmonic, Herridge was recently appointed to the City of Las Vegas Arts Commission.

THE PHILHARMONIC CELEBRATES 10TH ANNIVERSARY STAR SPANGLED SPECTACULAR WITH NEW SURPRISES

(LAS VEGAS - June 11th, 2008 ) It's almost that time again for one of Las Vegas' most popular traditions with barbeques, fireworks, and pops music for the whole family. The Las Vegas Philharmonic opens its tenth anniversary season with its annual Star Spangled Spectacular and promises to celebrate the Fourth of July with a big bang and special surprises throughout the evening. Under the direction of Music Director David Itkin with Associate Conductor Richard McGee, the program features a variety of tunes from a patriotic George M. Cohan medley (composer of "You're a Grand Old Flag") to Broadway favorites performed by Brent Barrett, tenor and former star of "Phantom - the Las Vegas Spectacular." The grand finale, starting with Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture," will display a full fireworks show by legendary pyrotechnics company, Zambelli Internationale.
Gates open at 4:30 p.m. Performance begins at 8 p.m. Arrive early! Lawn seating is first come first served and fills up fast. Burgers, hot dogs, and soda catered by the Custom Cook will be available in the park, and Ben & Jerry's will provide ice cream. Attendees are welcome to bring their own coolers. Tickets for the VIP Pavilion (adults 21 and over only) are $100, which includes food. General admission tickets for adults are $25 in advance and $30 at the gate. PHILHARMONIC CELEBRATES FOURTH WITH STAR SPANGLED SPECTACULAR

What has become the favorite Fourth of July Celebration in Las Vegas, the Star Spangled Spectacular spotlighting the Las Vegas Philharmonic, will again be held at Hills Park, Summerlin. The program, to be conducted by Music Director Harold Weller and Associate Conductor Richard McGee, showcases such patriotic favorites as Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever," the "1812 Overture" with rocket bursts, Richard Rodgers' "Victory at Sea," and Aaron Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man." U.S. Senator from Nevada John Ensign will narrate "Rushmore" by Alfred Reed. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m.
The Philharmonic's maestros will relinquish the podium to the lucky winner of the "Conduct the Philharmonic" raffle, who will lead Sousa's "Liberty Bell March." The spectacular fireworks display by Zambelli Internationale launches immediately after the concert.
This crowd-pleasing pops concert has become a holiday tradition celebrating both the Birth of the Nation, now 225 years old, and the birth of the Las Vegas Philharmonic, now beginning its Third Season. Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman will again welcome the audience. The Basic High School U.S. Marine Corps Junior R.O.T.C. Color Guard will present the colors. Las Vegas Councilwoman Lynette Boggs McDonald will sing the "Star Spangled Banner" and "America the Beautiful." Master of Ceremonies is Kurt Mische.
Food and Fourth of July are synonymous, and picnicking on the lawn is popular. Big Mama's Rib Shack will also be selling their ribs and chicken. Soft drinks and beverages will also be available.
Major sponsors for the Philharmonic's Star Spangled Spectacular are the Howard Hughes Corporation and the City of Las Vegas.

This event sells out, so early ticket purchase is suggested. Will call opens at 5 p.m. Holders of pre-purchased tickets will also be admitted at 5 p.m. On-site ticket sales begin at 5:30 p.m. Hills Park is at 9100 Hillpointe Road, just west of Rampart, in Summerlin. Low lawn chairs are permitted. Umbrellas are allowed until the concert starts.

APRIL 20: Beethoven's glorious masterwork, his monumental Ninth Symphony, with its exultant "Ode to Joy," concludes the Las Vegas Philharmonic's second season Saturday, May 5, at 8 p.m. at Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall on the U.N.L.V. campus. A festival chorus and four soloists join the Philharmonic under the direction of Harold Weller to perform this ultimate masterpiece of classical music.
Beethoven's "Fidelio Overture" adds to the musical drama of this Grand Finale of the Philharmonic's season.

Soprano Rebecca Abram Kreider, a Las Vegas resident, has performed leading roles with opera companies throughout the United States, including the Washington Opera at Kennedy Center and the Palm Beach Opera Company. She has also sung with the Indianapolis Symphony and Bach Society of St. Louis and was soprano soloist with the Las Vegas Philharmonic in its inaugural presentation of Mahler's Second (Resurrection) Symphony.
Mezzo-soprano Jody Kidwell of Philadelphia has an extensive operatic career, encompassing the title role in Carmen, Lucy Brown in Three Penny Opera, and Laura in Luisa Miller. She has appeared in concert with the Philadelphia Orchestra and National Symphony of Costa Rica. She won the Giargiari/Bel Canto Competition and Luciano Pavarotti/Opera Company of Philadelphia International Voice Competition.
Tenor Mark Thomsen is an Assistant Professor of Voice and Director of the Opera Program at U.N.L.V. He performs frequently throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. This season he has sung with the New York City, Atlanta, Dallas and Austin opera companies. He has also appeared with opera companies in Houston, Santa Fe, Washington, Edmonton and Vienna and at Spoleto Festival U.S.A. He sang Beethoven's Ninth with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Bass-baritone Kevin Deas of New York has gained acclaim as Porgy in concert performances of Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, with Bobby McFerrin conducting, including the San Francisco and Utah Symphonies and the New York and Israel Philharmonics. He has also performed such diverse works as the Verdi Requiem and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. He has had multiple engagements at Lincoln Center and at Carnegie Hall and has recorded extensively.
The U.N.L.V. Master Chorale of over 100 voices, under the leadership of David B. Weiller, Director of Choral Studies at U.N.L.V., was formed especially for this performance. In addition to the U.N.L.V. University Concert Singers, membership includes music educators from the Clark County School District, U.N.L.V. choral alumni, high school music students and community members.
Concertgoers will also have first chance to purchase tickets for the Philharmonic's Third Season, featuring exciting music and soloists and a Pops concert and Yuletide Celebration.
