Tickets Are On Sale Now For Summer Concerts And Shows

Tickets are on sale now for summer concerts and shows at the Historic Fifth Street School and Charleston Heights Arts Center.
 
DjangoVegas! returns to downtown Las Vegas June 22 to celebrate the music of Django Reinhardt and other gypsy jazz musicians past and present. The John Jorgenson Quintet, Stephane Wrembel and his band, and Hot Club of Las Vegas will perform at the Historic Fifth Street School, located at 401 S. Fourth St. Pre-concert cocktails, food and entertainment by the Icy Hot Club will begin at 5 p.m. in the outdoor courtyard. The concert will begin at 6 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets are priced at $10 in advance and $15 on event day.
 
Adults and children alike will enjoy “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” Lucky Diaz & the Family Jam Band, and “The Dragon King.”  Each performance is at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are priced at $3 per person for each show; discounted pricing is available for groups of 20 or more.
 
        The steampunk puppet production of “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” by Tears of Joy Theatre combines humor with science and the technology imagined by author Jules Verne to inspire the desire to learn and explore. Performances are Wednesday, July 17, at Charleston Heights Arts Center, located at 800 S. Brush St; and Thursday, July 18, at the Historic Fifth Street School. 
 
        Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band are familiar to “kindie rock” fans, with No. 1 hits on Sirius XM's Kids Place Live, wide acclaim and awards. This family band tours nationwide, spinning tunes that make grown-ups smile even as the lyrics speak directly to kids. Performances are Wednesday, July 24, at Charleston Heights Arts Center and Thursday, July 25, at the Historic Fifth Street School. 
 
        Tanglewood Marionettes will present “The Dragon King” Wednesday, July 31, at Charleston Heights Arts Center and Thursday, Aug. 1, at the Historic Fifth Street School. An underwater fantasy based on Chinese folklore, “The Dragon King” tells the tale of a wise grandmother who journeys to the bottom of the sea to seek the king and the answer to why he has forsaken the land above. With colorful sea creatures, an exciting adventure, and master puppeteers, the production is a heart-warming tale that will enthrall young and old alike.

The city of Las Vegas active adult and senior centers offer exercise, fitness, craft, arts, dance, music and computer classes; cards; games; discussion and social groups; luncheons; sports; and special events Monday through Friday to residents age 50 and better. Many of these activities contribute to wellness and a healthy lifestyle. All-summer pool passes (valid Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day): $40 individual, $60 for a family of up to 8 people, and $30 for an adult age 50+.

 


Each pool will offer private, semi-private and small group swimming lessons. Private lessons are $100, semi-private lessons (two-three students) are $50, and group lessons (four or more students) are $25, for six 45-minute lessons. Swim lesson sessions begin the week of June 10. Each pool also will offer novice competitive swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and water polo teams for ages 7-17 for only $25 for the entire summer pool season. Registration for swimming lessons and team participation is open until full.

Summer Youth Day Camps (ages 6-15)

 

Camp hours 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Friday, beginning June 10. There will be no camps July 4.

 

Cost: $75 per child for the week; $70 for each additional child in the family.
Registration closes when the programs are full. All locations will have limited enrollment. Contact each location for details and enrollment. Summer camps will promote fun, fitness, adventure and education in a safe and friendly atmosphere. Children can look forward to a variety of age-appropriate activities, including field trips, sports, special events, physical fitness and games, arts, crafts and nutrition training, under the supervision of trained staff, at the locations below. Bluegrass Celebration May 25 At Charleston Heights Arts Center


Lonesome Otis, Stuck In Reverse And Out Of The Desert To Perform

 

        Save the date now for the Bluegrass Celebration Saturday, May 25, 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Charleston Heights Arts Center, located at 800 S. Brush St. Tickets for a concert by the Lonesome Otis band at 5 p.m. in the center’s Jeanne Roberts Theatre are priced at $10 and on sale now. A pre-show by Out of the Desert and post-show by Stuck in Reverse bands in the center’s ballroom, as well as information booths and the opportunity to bring your own instrument and join in the music making during “porch picking” are all free. A food-and-beverage vendor will be available on site.         Out of the Desert will perform at 3:30 p.m. This band is comprised of award-winning instrumentalists who sing four-part vocals.         Based in Southern California, the Lonesome Otis band specializes in classic bluegrass, but also has an appreciation for slightly more contemporary songs.
