Scottish country dancing celebrates the beautiful ballroom dance styles of Scotland. Dances can be lively and joyful or gentle and graceful. From the first chord to the final bow or curtsey, participants will be inspired by the driving reels, jaunty jigs, snappy strathspeys or lilting airs. Dancers should wear comfortable clothes and soft shoes. Cosponsored by the Southern Nevada Old Time Contra Dancers, a nonprofit volunteer organization. 17th Annual Summer Youth Dance Camp (ages 8-18)

This three-week dance camp will include in-depth classes in ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary jazz, Hip Hop and more for any level — beginner, intermediate and advanced dancers. Placement is required for all intermediate and advanced students. A student performance will be held Saturday, July 28, at 1:30 p.m. in the Charleston Heights Arts Center Jeanne Roberts Theatre of Performing Arts. The Paul Mesner Puppets company has a reputation of offering elaborate productions with witty scripts, based on classic fairy tales and contemporary children’s literature. In 2008, this production received the highest honor in U.S. puppetry, the Union Internationale de la Marionette-USA Citation for Excellence in Puppetry — an award created by Jim Henson. David Lindsay grew up in the San Francisco bay area. After high school, he lived in northern Italy for two years. Although his purpose was not to study art, he could not help but be influenced by the art and architecture of that country. The influence of Italian painting and architecture can be seen in his work, but in a combination that is unique and creative. His work has been exhibited all over the United States, as well as in Italy and Romania. He currently is working on projects for venues in Las Vegas, Texas, Germany and Italy.
