Scottish Country Dancing (ages 13+)

 

Fridays, 6:30 to 8:45 p.m.

 

Cost: $5 per person at the door; $4 for members of Southern Nevada Old Time Contra Dancers.

Scottish country dancing celebrates the beautiful ballroom dance styles of Scotland. Dances can be lively and joyful or gentle and graceful. From the first chord to the final bow or curtsey, participants will be inspired by the driving reels, jaunty jigs, snappy strathspeys or lilting airs. Dancers should wear comfortable clothes and soft shoes. Cosponsored by the Southern Nevada Old Time Contra Dancers, a nonprofit volunteer organization. “The Jungle Book” Children’s Summer Concert (all ages)

The Magik Theatre of San Antonio, Texas will present “The Jungle Book,” adapted from Rudyard Kipling’s source stories by David Morgan with music by Jaime Ramirez. The familiar story of jungle boy Mowgli, and his friends panther Bagheera and great bear Baloo, will come to life on the stage. Urbanism is the study of how dwellers in towns and cities interact with their environment. Urbanism focuses on the geography, economy, politics and social characteristics of the urban environment. Join the Performing and Visual Arts Summer Camp for Kids on their exploration of self in a musical production that delves into the minds of young people in search of personal truth. The show expresses the vision of today’s youth, combining dance, music, and spoken word to dramatize real life experiences.  Admission is free, but tickets are required and may be picked up in advance at the West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. No charge to audition. If accepted, there is a $50 annual fee.

The Ensemble is a complete training program for serious theatre students. Participants receive intensive training in all aspects of theatre, from acting to set construction and ushering. Ensemble members attend weekly mandatory classes and crew or act in all Rainbow Company productions. No prepared material is required. Comfortable clothing should be worn that allows for movement. David Lindsay grew up in the San Francisco bay area. After high school, he lived in northern Italy for two years. Although his purpose was not to study art, he could not help but be influenced by the art and architecture of that country. The influence of Italian painting and architecture can be seen in his work, but in a combination that is unique and creative. His work has been exhibited all over the United States, as well as in Italy and Romania. He currently is working on projects for venues in Las Vegas, Texas, Germany and Italy.
