MEET THE FEATURED ARTISTS AT DERFELT SENIOR CENTER'S TWIN LAKES GALLERY

Everyone is invited to meet the featured artist at a free artist's reception in July, August and September at the Twin Lakes Gallery of the Derfelt Senior Citizens Center. Meet Margaret Sudweeks and her daughter Wanda Drake and see their oil and watercolor paintings Saturday, July 2, from 1 to 3 p.m. The gallery will exhibit their works July 2 through August 3. Located at 3341 West Washington Avenue in Lorenzi Park, Twin Lakes Gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.

Drake, 61, and Sudweeks, 81, began their art careers with a drawing class they took together. They continued with classes in Las Vegas at the community college and UNLV, as well as taking workshops by other artists through the years. Las Vegas residents since 1957, they both paint landscapes and florals. Drake also paints oil seascapes, portraits and still life. Sudweeks paints in watercolors, and has been a member of the Nevada Watercolor Society since the 1970s.

Artist Deane R. Fountain will exhibit paintings at Twin Lakes Gallery August 6 through 31. The public is invited to meet him at a gallery reception on Saturday, August 6, from 1 to 3 p.m. Originally from Seattle, Washington, Fountain, 75, paints racecars, wrecks and automotive history in acrylics on canvas. A retired city of Las Vegas battalion fire chief and Korean War veteran, he has driven late-model racecars since 1951.

Sheila Spargo will exhibit her watercolor paintings and pen-and-ink drawings at Twin Lakes Gallery September 3 through 29. The public is invited to meet her at a gallery reception on Saturday, September 3, from 1 to 3 p.m. Spargo, 70, paints primarily landscapes on paper in transparent watercolors. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, she earned her college degree at Stanford University, with a major in French and a minor in art. She and her husband Jack have been Las Vegas residents since 1970, but enjoy traveling throughout the world. Her subjects usually are scenes from their travels.
