Veterans Honored At Appreciation Dinner & Dance Nov. 14

Everyone is invited to honor the achievements and contributions of our community’s service men and women at the Seventh Annual Veterans’ Appreciation Dance on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center.  A special ceremony will honor the veterans, followed by a buffet dinner and dancing. The Gene White Orchestra and Swing Patrol will entertain with favorite dance tunes. Tickets are priced at $25 per person and must be purchased in advance. Dress uniform or evening attire is recommended for the event. The center is located at 250 N. Eastern Ave. Call 229-1515 for tickets and information.

Scottish Country Dancing
Cosponsored by the Southern Nevada Old Time Contra Dancers
Friday, Nov. 13, 6 to 9 p.m.
Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St., 229-6383.
Cost: $5 general admission, $4 for Southern Nevada Old Time Contra Dancers members. Multiple ticket discount available.

Scottish Country Dancing is the beautiful "ballroom" dance of Scotland, a social dance form with roots stretching back for centuries. Enjoy both traditional and modern dances. Dancers should wear comfortable clothes and soft shoes such as gillies, ballet slippers or jazz shoes. Ladies will find that skirts help them to enjoy the natural flow of the dance. Kilts are not required, but are heartily encouraged.

Kids Night Out (ages 5-11)
Friday, Nov. 13, 6 to 10 p.m.
Fee: $15

Children enjoy playing games, making crafts, watching a movie and eating pizza.
Student Showcase Open House (all ages)
Friday, Nov. 13, 6:30 p.m. open house; 7:30 p.m. showcase performance.
Free admission.
Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North, 229-6211.
Students showcase their talents in music, dance, ceramics and visual arts. Tour the city’s first cultural center and learn about the programs and classes available.

Red Bull Vegas AmJam Skatepark Competition Series Round 12 (ages 6-adult)
Saturday, Nov. 14, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Registration and practice will begin at 10 a.m.
Fee: $10 to compete; spectators are free. Helmet required for competitors.
Hollywood Skatepark, 1650 S. Hollywood Blvd. at Charleston Blvd.

Ward 4 Old-Fashioned Fall Festival
Saturday, Nov. 14, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Free admission and events.
Wayne Bunker Family Park, 7351 W. Alexander Road, at Tenaya Way.

Enjoy face painting, balloon artists, jump house, sack races, hula-hoop contest, cake walk, caramel apples, farmers’ market, music by a DJ, and community craft and food vendors. Bring canned foods to donate to Jude 22, a nonprofit organization which provides food to low-income senior citizens. Call 229-3516 for more information.

Butterfly Kisses Daddy/Daughter Dance (all ages)
Saturday, Nov. 14, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Register by Friday, Nov. 7.
Fee: $25/couple, $5 each additional child.
Mirabelli Community Center, 6200 Hargrove Ave., (702) 229-6359.
Daddies and daughters are invited to this special event, filled with dancing, food and pictures. This is a dress-up event held at the Lieburn Senior Center, 6230 Garwood Ave.
