Celebrate Minker Sports Complex 30th Anniversary With Health Fair, Expo & Workout Nov. 21
Everyone age 10 and older is invited to participate in the Fourth Annual Break A Holiday Sweat Pre-Holiday Workout Aerobithon, Health Fair & Information Expo on Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Minker Sports Complex, 275 N. Mojave Road. Part of the center’s 30th anniversary celebration, the three-hour aerobithon begins at 9:30 a.m., with the health fair and information expo starting at 10 a.m. Instructors will lead participants in one hour of Zumba, followed by an hour of strength training and abdominal exercises. The final hour will focus on yoga. All fitness levels and abilities are welcome. Advance registration is not available. This workout is aimed at helping everyone maintain a healthy lifestyle during the holiday season by achieving exercise and fitness goals, as well as relieving some pre-holiday stress.
Members of the sports complex may participate in the event at no additional charge. Non-members will be charged the facility use $3 daily fee. The first 25 registered participants will receive a free gift. Water and healthy snacks will be provided. Youth ages 10-15 will need to be accompanied by a participating parent. A city of Las Vegas facility, the Minker Sports Complex is celebrating its 30th year of serving the community. The complex regularly offers adult basketball, racquetball and volleyball league play for men and women. The center holds a variety of fitness classes, including Pilates, power yoga, yin yoga, Zumba and more, as well as shotokan and tae kwon do martial arts classes for ages 5 to adult. Advance registration is not required for fitness classes. The Minker Sports Complex includes a full gymnasium, racquetball/wallyball courts, aerobics/dance studio, cardio/weight room, outdoor walk/jog path, lockers and showers. Fitness facilities include stationary upright and recumbent bicycles, treadmills, Stairmasters, upper body Ergo-meter, Concept 2 rower, free weights and dry sauna. Series curator Luis Bonilla will present a short introduction of the featured film at 6 p.m. After the screening, Bonilla will lead a discussion on the film in Spanish. Set in 1910 during the uprising of Madero’s forces against the Porfirio Diaz command, “El Cometa” is the story of love, war and the cinema. Romualdo runs a variety show that just lost its biggest star, his son Victor (Diego Luna), to the lure of the cinema and cinematographer Guy (Patrick LeMauff). Guy agrees to help Romualdo get his act back on track in exchange for harboring Valentina (Ana Claudia Talancon), the daughter of a Madero rebel. This 1999 film is unrated, runs 99 minutes, and is in Spanish. The Cine en el Centro Spanish-language film series is presented by the city of Las Vegas, Cox Communications, VeneMovies, Venevision International, La Nueva 103.5 FM, Recuerdo 99.3 FM, Radio Variedades 870 AM, Tortillas Los Arcos and El Mercadito.

Scottish Country Dancing is the beautiful "ballroom" dance of Scotland, a social dance form with roots stretching back for centuries. Enjoy both traditional and modern dances. Dancers should wear comfortable clothes and soft shoes such as gillies, ballet slippers or jazz shoes. Ladies will find that skirts help them to enjoy the natural flow of the dance. Kilts are not required, but are heartily encouraged.
