The 17th Annual Nevada Broadcasters Association (NBA) HALL OF FAME GALA that recognizes and showcases excellence in Nevada's radio and television industry was held at the RED ROCK Casino Resort & Spa. The theme of the Gala was I AM A BROADCASTER. The dress for the NBA HALL OF FAME GALA was Cocktail Attire and the event started with a Reception and Silent Auction. Guests socialized, enjoyed beverages and passed appetizers of Grilled Peach, Prosciuatto & Raicotta Crostini,Chicken Currey Salad, Curry Tulle Cone,Chardonnay Pached Lobster, Truffle Emulsion andMiniature Warm Roasted Vegetable Napoleon as they viewed and bid on the Silent Auction.

After the Cocktail Reception guests were seated and M.C. PAULA FRANCIS, KLAS-TV news anchor, asked all Veterans in the audience to gather in front of the stage. The NEVADA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD came down to the stage as they were honored. The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag was then presented by Veteran, Chuck Baker. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley was introduced and gave a passionate speech as she too honored the Veterans.

The evening was dedicated to the Northern Nevada television and radio stations for their commitment to their community as FIRST RESPONDERS during some of the darkest days and the most tragic events to hit Northern Nevada in 2011 and 2012. Nevada Broadcasters Association President and CEO, BOB FISHER said that Nevada is the only State where Broadcasters are classified as FIRST RESPONDERS. Bob Fisher introduced Governor BRIAN SANDOVAL who spoke about the terrible tragedies that occurred in Northern Nevada and of the critical role of television and radio station as First Responders. As Northern Nevada television and radio stations First Responders a screening was shown of their coverage of the train wreck in Fallon, the IHOP shooting in Carson City, the Reno Air Races Crash and the Cauglin and Washoe fires. Their coverage raised the bar and set the standard for Nevada Broadcast journalism. Accepting the award for FIRST RESPONDERS were Aaron Kenneston, Washoe County emergency manager, and Adrienne Abbott, Nevada state chairwoman of the Emergency Alert System.

The event recognized many distinguished honorees, among them was recently retired Las Vegas News Anchor GARY WADDELL. Gary Waddell had an outstanding career at 8 News NOW for over 32 years. He was honored for his remarkable professionalism as a news leader and Community Humanitarian. At this Gala, the NBA announced the establishment of a scholarship in Gary Waddell’s name.

Many other tributes were given to deserving individuals who work with NBA such as Dick Zaragoza, NBA’s Washington attorney for 18 years and a special tribute to Scholarship Fundraising Chairman Eric Bonnici. Nevada Broadcasters Association executive assistant Earlene Lefler was honored and welcomed into the NBA Hall of Fame for her years of service to the organization

THE PINNACLE AWARD was given to Las Vegas Events (LVE) for the important role LVE has played in making Las Vegas one of the world’s premier resort destinations. LVE promotes and organizes some of the world's most successful ongoing, signature events throughout the year, including the National Finals Rodeo (NFR), the “’super bowl’” of Rodeos; the Electric Daisy Carnival; Zappos.Com Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and more. Pat Christenson, President and CEO of LVE accepted the award.

An award, In Memoriam was given to J.K. Metzker, sports director at KTVN-TV, Channel 2, in Reno, who was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Nov. 2011. Accepting the award were his young sons, Tommy, Tanner and Luke Metzker who were each given the NBA trophy.

THE COMMUNITY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD went to KCEP 88.1 FM Radio. The station is celebrating its 40th anniversary and will celebrate this occasion at a Gala on October 7, 2012 at Sam’s Town Hotel/Casino. Craig Knight, KCEP general manager/program director accepted the award.

The 17th Annual NBA Hall of Fame Gala recognized deserving individuals for their dedication and achievements in the Broadcast industry. Bob Fisher, NBA President and Adam Sandler, NBA Vice-President conducted the induction of the Class of 2012. Thirty-six Broadcasters were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Among those recognized were Betty Lougaris for her 67 years in broadcasting and Jerry Roy for his 64 years in broadcasting. As of this night, 340 men and women have been inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame. Congratulations to all!

Tony Bonnici and Darrin McDonald then conducted the live auction raising quite a bit of funds that will go towards NBA Scholarships.

After Dinner, NBA presented its prestigious NAB Lifetime Achievement Award to Former U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith, President & CEO of the National Association of Broadcasters. Senator Gordon Smith was at the gala to accept the award. This award recognizes the NAB for the Association’s advocacy in Washington, D.C.

The 2012-13 Scholarship Recipients were called onstage by Tony Bonnici along with his family. The Scholarship recipients are: Dena Banning, Danielle Leeds, Alexandria Cannito, Rommel Santiago, Honey Love, and Ariana Cramer.

The evening continued with dancing to the music of THE PEELERS.







And so ended an incredible evening dedicated to BROADCASTERS.
