Nevada Opera Theatre Celebrations
Nevada Opera Theatre Guild held a beautiful Holiday Celebration luncheon at Maggiano’s Little Italy in the Fashion Show Mall on the Strip. The Nevada Opera Theatre is a successful professional opera company incorporating a fine balance of classic opera, operetta and musical theatre productions.
The event started with a hosted reception while guests mingled and viewed an excellent silent auction. As guests socialized, holiday carols were performed by the Nevada Opera Theatre’s Chorus.A festive delicious luncheon was then served with a menu that went on and on as each entrée was served family style. During lunch, Master of Ceremonies Denny Weddle introduced Nevada Opera Theatre soloists who performed. Nevada Opera Theatre soloists Shanti Bowes, soprano; Angela Taverner tenors Ingvar Estrada, Ben Litvinoff; and Dr. Morton Hyson, bass, entertained seasonal selections with keyboard accompaniment by Richard Weiss. The Nevada Opera Theatre Chorus joined in the singing of holiday carols.

M.C, Denny Weddle stimulated the audience as he called winners for raffle prizes. He then introduced and honored significant members of the Nevada Opera Theater. They were:Karen Scherer, Nevada Opera Guild chairwoman; Eileen Hayes, Nevada Opera founder and general director; Joan Dimmitt, chairwoman of the Divas & Divos; Nancy Vinnik, advisory board member; Mojgan Rahban-Ross, Luncheon on the Nile co-chair; and Lena Walther, honorary consul of Sweden and Luncheon on the Nile Co-Chair. Angie Wallin, executive director of Nevada Arts Advocates was called to the podium and told the audience about the 12th annual Nevada Arts Advocates Gala that will take place Jan. 22 at Aria.
A long list of acknowledgments were offered to supporters and volunteers who made this event possible. The opera luncheon's table sponsors were Joan Dimmitt, The Divas & Divos of Nevada Opera Theatre, Rosita Kanes, Dr. Morton and Nicole Hyson, Eileen Hayes, Beverly and Mike Mykisen, Nevada State Bank, Dr. Charles and Nancy Vinnik, Paula Perez, Mojgan Rahban-Ross and Lena Walther. Special thanks to Eileen Hayes and Karen Scherer, chairman of the Nevada Opera Theatre Guild, for all the good work they do for the Nevada Opera Company.

The Nevada Opera Theatre’s Guild is a group of hard-working individuals dedicated to promoting and contributing to the Nevada Opera Theatre. In addition to the Holiday Celebration Luncheon, the Guild hosts several events that have become a tradition. They are: The Opera Gala, The International Friendship Luncheon, Meet the Artists Luncheon, Patron Receptions, and Holiday High Tea.

The following week, Nevada Opera Theatre founder, Eileen Hayes and Rosita Kanes hosted a lovely Soiree for invited guests.The Soiree was held at the beautiful HACIENDA GRANDE ESTATES.Brilliant piano renditions were performed as guests enjoyed the elegant setting while sipping on champagne and delectable hors d’oeuvres.Among some of the guests attending were: Rich Little, Steve Rossi,
Carolee and Ed Swindle, Vera Goulet, Susan Houson, Grant Griffith, Sondra Lynch and Beverly and Mike Mykisen and Mojgan Rahban-Ross.
