An exceptional event for Planned Parenthood’s 6th Annual Corks & Forks Gala was held at Meet Event Center, downtown in Las Vegas, NV.  Honorees  for the event were County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani (Chris G) and former U.S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkely

The event featured a silent auction as well as a live Auction, and a served dinner.

Speakers from Planned Parenthood spoke of the good works being done in Southern Nevada’s Las Vegas. Planned Parenthood is the largest U.S. provider of reproductive health services, including cancer screening,  HIVscreening, counseling, contraception and  abortion.  The organization had its roots in Brooklyn, New York, where  Margaret Sanger opened the country's first birth-control clinic. Sanger founded the American Birth Control League in 1921, which in 1942 became part of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Since then, Planned Parenthood has grown to have over 820 clinic locations in the U.S., with a total budget of US $1 billion. PPFA provides an array of services to over three million people in the United States, and supports services for over one million clients outside the United States.

Honoree, Chris Giunchigliani was given an Award and spoke about responsibility for Family Rights and Civil rights.  Chris G said Planned Parenthood needs as many legislators as possible for abortion rights.

Dinner was served and the menu was:
Salad :     Roasted Beet & Orange Salad with Goat Cheese, Organic Greens
               and Citrus Vinaigrette.
Entrée:  Duet of Slowly Braised Brisket bundle with Sherry Wild Mushroom Sauce
and Fresh Sole Filet filled with Spinach toped with Lemon Scented
Brioche Crumbs Potato Mousseline and Farm Fresh Vegetables
Desert:  Sweet Ending of Lemon Ricotta Mascarpone Cream and
Flourless Chocolate Cake with Rich Expresso Chocolate Sauce
                and Whipping cream.

Dr. Ruth Westheimer was then introduced and talked about how things have changed about sex since she started her career as a sex therapist on radio.  She gave some examples, such as the word pregnant could not be said; instead they would say “she’s with child.” I must say I know what she meant. I too was a credentialed sex therapist/sexologist pioneer in this field, even before Dr. Ruth.  I remember when I was teaching human sexuality at the college level and was asked to speak to prisoners, I was not allowed to mention homosexuality because same sex was a felony at that time.  Dr. Ruth and I have known each other for many years, and her becoming so well- known was very helpful to me.

Dr. Ruth says humor is very important when talking about sex.  She said a man was trying for 4 months to find the G spot.  She said now women also have to take the initiative. They actually did in times past by dropping their handkerchief. Sometimes it worked, but sometimes her handkerchief remained on the floor. She made the audience to be honorary Jewish and said in conception a boy baby will be born if the woman reaches orgasm before the man ejaculates.  She spoke about positions, orgasm, pre- ejaculation, fantasy, 50 Shades of Grey and more. Although the sound could have been better, the audience really enjoyed her talk.

The event was extremely successful. Although Planned Parenthood hoped to raise $20,000 an over the top $33,000 was raised.  In addition individual donations from the audience brought in many thousands of dollars. Graham Crow from Seattle, a professional auctioneer for charities M.C.d the auctions and donations.
