The 23rd Annual Nevada Broadcasters Association and Foundation (NVBA and NVBF) Hall of Fame Gala was a momentous celebration. The Gala that was held at the Four Seasons Hotel recognizes and showcases excellence in Nevada's radio and television industry. An amazing amount of Broadcasters from different areas of Nevada attended and were recognized.

The evening started with a reception and a silent auction in the outer Ballroom.

A terrific live auction including two adorable puppies kept the audience excited and bidding higher and higher. Both the silent and live auctions went very well and all money raised through the auctions goes to the Tony & Linda Bonnici Broadcast/Communications Scholarships. The Tony and Linda Bonnici Broadcasting Scholarship Fund Foundation provides full tuition scholarships to students attending Nevada’s Colleges and Universities. Tony & Linda Bonnici Scholarship Fund finds the very best broadcasting and journalism students in Nevada and empowers them to pursue their dream by awarding scholarships. The Foundation awards full tuition scholarships to the next generation of

Nevada’s broadcasters. This scholarship is unique in that it is a scholarship by broadcasters for broadcasters.

To date: in the past eight years, 145 scholarships have been awarded to talented and dedicated students of Broadcasting in Nevada.

Memorial Videos were shown honoring past Broadcasters who passed away this year. Unfortunately there were many. (note: I had written this article, however it was not published until after the Gala. The event was on Saturday and just a few days later on Wednesday, Hank Thornley, Life Achievement honoree passed away.)

The mission of the NVBA is to promote and advocate for the Broadcasters of Nevada while serving the public. NVBA helps improve and preserve, on a national and statewide basis, an economic, legal and regulatory environment that best enhances the ability of each Station to be financially strong, to remain free from governmental control of programming, and to excel in the public service roles that each Station plays in Nevada.

Numerous other people and organizations were honored and acknowledged.

Tom Warden and Dr. Adele Zorn - excited to connect with Tom Warden after so many years.

Debra March - (in Pink) Mayor of Henderson (Chuck Baker on right)

Broadcasters and guests enjoyed seeing each other from far and near. I also saw many who I had worked and been involved with in the past and many others who I admired.

Tom Warden’s name was mentioned by one of the speakers and that brought back memories of an experience I had with him many years ago. Tom Warden is now Senior Vice President of Community and Government. When he was an anchor on Chanel 8 and I was teaching at the college, he was interested in the subject and wanted to show my class on TV. The school said no as it was against the privacy issue and didn’t allow it to happen. So,Tom Warden came to my home and did an interview with me about the class.

However, he was persistent and didn’t take no for an answer. He kept after the school and got them to accept the idea that the classmates who wanted to be on TV would move to one side of the room and those who didn’t want to be seen to move to the other side. This enabled Tom to show a very interesting TV experience about this class.

Eric Bonnici - Delivering closing statement at Gala

After all the presentations and awards were given out, Eric Bonnici came onstage to close the gala. Eric Bonnici is the executive director of the Tony and Linda Scholarship Fund Foundation and he said, “Upwards of $288,000 pays for tuition funding and tonight we are humbled that the silent and live auctions helped to put a dent in that tuition bill.”

And so ended the wonderful 23rd Annual NVBA Hall of Fame Gala.
