Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner and entertainment icon Jerry Seinfeld was born in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in Massapequa, Long Island. He graduated from Queens College in 1976 and went straight to the New York comedy club circuit to hone his skills. It wasn't until 1981 when he was 27 that his career took off the result of his first successful spot on "The Tonight Show" with then-host Johnny Carson. Appearances on "Late Night with David Letterman" and "The Merv Griffin Show" followed, and Seinfeld soon became one of the leading standup comedians in the business.

In 1989, Seinfeld teamed up with fellow standup comedian Larry David and created "Seinfeld Chronicles" for Castle Rock Entertainment. This became the template for one of the most successful series in the history of television in NBC's "Seinfeld." The show ran for nine extraordinarily successful seasons and garnered numerous accolades, including the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series in 1993 and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series in 1995, 1997 and 1998. In 1998, the finale episode aired to a national audience of a staggering 75 million viewers. Currently in its seventh year in syndication, "Seinfeld" is still a front-runner in the ratings. As a testament to its success in the television landscape, TV Guide's poll of the "Greatest Shows of All Time" listed "Seinfeld" as #1.
