Booked our (husband & self) trip in August, thankfully as the airfair had more than tripled by the time we made the trip. Flew on Continental, flight was smooth & on time. Mom had to fly in the 29th, so she already had the car rented & picked us up at the airport. My aunt got to the Nugget about an hour after us.
Checked in by 10am in the North tower 6th floor, with view of the mountains. Had purchased the NYE package that came with tickets to the Fremont St. Experience New Year's Eve party.
We always stay downtown, and will only stay at the Nugget.
The people are real and the casions are close together.
Ate at Zak's @ 11am at the Nugget (this is our favorite restaurant in Vegas).
This time I shared the Coconut Fried Shrimp w/my Mom, it was great. Other places we ate were: the Fremont's Seafood Buffet they have every Tuesday.
They ate the Golden Gate's prime rib special on New Year's Eve, I decided to gamble & continue my LaBayou frozen hurricanes as the food would ruin the buzz.
The Carson Street Cafe is always great too, we usually eat breakfast there. And of course Starbucks is necessary every morning!!!
Had the GN seafood buffet comped for all three of us Friday night, it was also YUMMY.. (husband calls it the $2000 buffets as that is what I put in their slot machines to receive a comp!!!)
Husband stayed in the room most of the time watching all the football games, while I lost at the slots, but it was still fun!!!
Mom & I drove down to the strip we were planning to casino hop, & visit the M&M store, parked at the Aladdin, but it was very windy & cold so we ended up going back downtown, after leaving the Aladdin some of our gambling $$.
Florida Gators made my parlay lose!!!
Can't make myself stop putting $$ in those progressive slots!!
Mom & I did the spa & massage, this is one of my favorite parts of the trip, the Nugget spa is the best.
We also drove to the Rio and had dinner at the Bamboleo Mexican restarant it was very good, too bad I drank too much the night before, I couldn't enjoy one of those giant margaritas!!
Saw the free show at the Rio, and of course lost more $$ on the slots.
Friday night we saw Steve Connelly as Elvis at Fitzgeralds Downtown, he was great, has his own CD coming out and he sang two of his songs off the new CD, that we really enjoyed, it's a free show, just purchase a drink ($6).
Highly suggest everyone visits the Red Rock Canyon area, ($5) per a car, it's a 13 mile scenic drive, very beautiful, took some awesome pictures, (17 miles west of Vegas).
There are serveral trails & hikes you can take, everytime we go it's either too hot, or too cold to do the trails.
Guess I'll have to start planning my next trip so I can do some hiking!! :)
This is my second NYE in Vegas, last time we fell asleep before midnight, so we took naps this time. LoveShack performed the preshow, they were an awesome cover band.
War & The Tramps played too, but as I mentioned before those hurricanes were kicking in, so do not remember much about their performance.
Didn't make it back to see the "V" show at the Venetian, but would suggest that you see that show & Legends in Concert @ the Imperial Palace!!
My Aunt was the only winner, she won lots of times playing Bingo.
Flight home was on time, and sad, back to reality.
Still trying to convince the husband to move to Vegas, as I have been for the past 5 years!!!
