This trip is a vacation trip with my girl friend 'C' and we would meet her daughter 'S' as it was C's birthday.
Flew out of Toronto Thursday 11 mar @ 6:20 AM via Sunwing. Good flight, on time in Vegas at 8:30 AM.
Took shuttle to Rio, cost $ 9.00 each, arrived at the Rio at 9:30 am, could not check in as was too early, was told to come back between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM. Went and checked bags with the bell cap and took a walk around. Played my daily keno ticket, they have a special at the Rio that is a seven number at 10 cents a game but you must play 100 games. I play this every day for 200 games, 7 out of 7 pays
$ 1,200.00. I won it once two years ago and keep playing. No luck this time out. Played deal or no deal and won $ 100.00. At noon decide to play in the poker tournament. Only nine players so it was winner take all. Entry fee was $ 50.00 and the house takes $ 18.00 of that, there is a rebuy or top up 2,000 chips for $ 20.00 during the first hour. Played in tournament twice with no luck, small tournament like this really is about luck.
Got room on the 6th floor, close to the elevators with a view of the palms. I have stayed here many times and know that the only thing the $ 20.00 trick gets you is a better view from my experience.
Dinner was at the sports grill and was good as I have come to expect. Called it an early night as it has been a long day.
Friday 12 March
Played slots and video poker at the Rio, no wins.
Ate dinner at the Monte Carlo buffet, just ok. Went to Lance Burton at the Monte Carlo Friday night, great show, and fantastic show if you are taking kids to Vegas.
Saturday 13 March
Played video poker and slots at Rio, Flamingo, Harrah's, Imperial Palace, no luck, in fact we never even got much play. 20 after 20 and no cherries to keep you playing at all.
Sunday 14 March
Went over to the Gold Coast and although we did not win we got a lot more play for our money, 30 -45 minutes per 20 dollars. Ate dinner at the All American Bar and Grill at the Rio, we both had the filet minion and it was great. 5:45 PM on a Sunday night and there were maybe 3 tables with people at them, very slow.
Monday 15 March
Went to see Viva Elvis at the Aria, we also went to the buffet here and although it has lots of room it is a limited buffet in my opinion. Some sea food, beef with the blood running out of it, carved turkey and carved pork. Desert bar was small but very good, again not very busy, maybe 15 % full.
Went to go to the show and we had balcony tickets and the door to the balcony is closed and we are told to go to a table near the lower entrance. They ask for my tickets and take them and hand me three other tickets so we enter through the main door and the usher says follow me. We are taken down to about 14 rows from the stage dead center of the show room, wow what a great upgrade. Balcony was closed and lower seats were not full. Show I thought was ok but 'C' loved it as she loved Elvis. I still think love is a better show.
Tuesday 16 March
Walked around Planet Hollywood, not much has changed. Went to the tickets for less on the strip, all shows accept Viva Elvis and Donny and Marie are discounted by 25 to 50 %.
Wed 17 March
Went to the mirage for dinner. Best buffet I have had in Vegas in the last couple of years.
Went to the Terry Fator show. Best show on the strip and he allows you take all the pictures you want. He also does a meet and greet after the show for everyone. Nice touch that he does not charge an extra hundred like Wayne Newton and Donny and Marie.
Conclusions
Food: ok, nothing memorable
Gambling: never won anything other than the hundred at the start of the trip. Machines seem sooo tight and never saw anyone win any kind of a jackpot
Shows: Lance Burton, very good
Viva Elvis, just ok
Terry Fator: do not miss, best show on the strip
Hope to get back in September, thanks to everyone who posts a report.
